DEPDC is an independent organization with no religious or government affiliations which relies on grants and donations to continue its work. We make every effort to keep our administrative costs to the bear minimum so you can feel assured that your donation reaches the children.

Money is currently being sought for the following purposes.

Support of girls

Every year several hundred girls are referred to DEPDC, often more than we can accommodate. It costs about US $750 per year for every girl DEP supports at school. This amount covers the costs of full-time accommodation, school uniforms, equipment, activities, lunch, school transport as well as life development and health care programs.

Accommodation for indigenous peoples

Many hill-tribe children have no suitable school in their villages. Family problems prevent others from learning. Funds are required to provide food and accommodation for those who have to live away from home to obtain education.

Study Tours

Many of the children in the programme have never travelled away from home. During the school holiday a group is taken on tour to see the reality of life in Thai cities and the social and environmental problems in other areas of the country.

Mekong Youth Net

While efforts are being made to address the problem within the country, girls still stream into Thailand from neighbouring Myanmar, Laos and southern China. They come to work in local brothels or use Bangkok as a straging post to other countries. As the number of tourists in Vietnam and Cambodia increases so does the demand for child prostitutes in those countries. DEPDC is collaborating with groups in these neighbouring countries.

In an effort to stem this flow of humanity DEPDC created MYN to a create a network of youth leaders who can work on prevention activities across the Mekong Sub-region.

Sponsoring a Child

The concept of sponsoring individual children is not new in the world of giving. Unfortunately it is not one that DEPDC can either offer or support. DEPDC is a small community of children many of whom have already endured more than many of us will ever experience in our lifetime. We feel all of our children should be given the same opportunities to succeed in an environment where all children are treated equally. Individual sponsorship would not go unnoticed in such a close knit community and children questioning why some 'have' and some 'have not' is not conducive to the environment DEPDC strives to provide.

English Language Teaching Materials

We currently have no English Language teaching materials. Staff and volunteers rely on grammar books for lesson materials or create the materials themselves. A full curriculum for Beginner and Intermediate including tapes, teacher's guide and student's guide would be invaluable.
